I had read with Gateway that there is something in the system that allows reinstall from the computer without a softwear disk. The archive program “7-Zip” available from http://www.7-zip.org/ installed. I got it to allow me to install chrome. Yes, that could be a problem with either. Windows 7 won't boot, not even safe mode... then when it reches Auto detecting 3rd Master, it will hang up. So I got a call, and all that work I put in, to them looks like I didnt fix their computer.
I have gone into bios and set the boot order correctly and still will not boot. I do have access to another computer but it's my brothers and it has Windows XP (I'd like to keep my Windows 7). It says "The selected disk is of the GPT partition style" I cant boot my computer now. I'm stuck with no cursor since the cursor doesn't move nor respond.
This is universal on all computers not just gateway1) The 64 bit DVD could not have possibly worked in Vista, since its a 32 bit operating system, 32 bit cant use Boot into safe mode with networking…Google and install Malware bytes and run a virus scan. Initially, the DVD had a burn load qued that I deleted. Vista tries to read and the spinning disk w/glass timer flashes but ultimately it fails.
My hard drive is SATA. I did have to change the BIOS because - you were correct - Gateway has it set to default at what they call "NORMAL" I had to go to ADVANCE - This computer has been working great for me and all of a sudden it's doing this. or read our Welcome Guide to learn how to use this site.
I set the DVD as the only boot device, so the boot up took a bit longer, but the computer still booted from XP on the hard drive.Humm . . . Upon reboot the system seems to ignore the DVD and reboots to Vista.
