I also had a Win 2000 server which got slower and slower over time till a reboot because of an SQL database growing in memory usage until we restarted. Some users report that XP reboots on shutdown if APM is enabled, but shuts Windows down just fine if APM is disabled. I was previously prevented from doing this because of a message received while trying to enable hibernation that a device attached to the system was not working. Windows XP gives the ability to rapidly bounce between user accounts, with Win+L.
