the user was in IE7, and it looks like his browser was trying to download the boost-gzip-cookie-test.html, which then errored out. and if it is possible, how can it be prevented? You may use wFetch of Fiddler to do that. My guess is a firewall removes the Content-Encoding: gzip header from the gzip test; when IE gets a document it can't parse, it redirects to the actual document when it's inside
