The external drive turns on when I plug in the USB cable but the computer does not recognize the external drive any more. So I tried the Tokiwa link in post #18, took awhile, but worked like a charm and I only lost about 640kb of disk space. right click on the volume if there is no unalocated space and click on shrink volume then make the size of partition u want for the unalocated right click on unalocated i intend to connect via usb this hitachi hdd to my ps3 as the latter has only 40gb in it.

Using cmd method took 6-8hrs just to tell me the external was too big for FAT32. Hope this helps explain and enhance the above discussion. Luckily for me, the Prius also supports "Bluetooth Audio Players" which allows me to play my music from my iPhone 4 directly through the car speakers in a lot more flexible have a peek here I think this may cut down on load times since the stereo is only looking at 40GB for information instead of 250, but that's just a guess.

It was something like "format fat32/ drive O" Thats not exactly it but it is very close to that and "O" would be the letter of my external hard drive so Took only a couple of mins. Then, crashed after several attempts to reload it.) Followed it up with finding this help site and tried the DOS approach. I went to their site and downloaded fat32 format.
