after 15 restore points and reloads, it is for sure the NVidia update. I had the same symptoms, after upgrading from W8 to W8.1. bootrec /mbrfix didn't fix my original, now I'm just left wondering about the stability of the machine I updated. Thought you would like to know. F8 and Esc did nothing.
